Alfred’s Bakery

Alfred’s Farm, Alfred’s Bakery & Two Corgis Graphic Design

Raleigh, NC & Cedar Grove Township, NC

Wendy & Alfred moved to Raleigh, NC from Galveston TX in 2007 (where we raised bananas, citrus and palms). In May 2009 we bought a 42-acre farm, with fields and forest, located at the headwaters of the West Fork of the Eno River, 10 miles N of Hillsborough. Currently we are building a residence and greenhouse on the land. In spring 2011 we will move to the farm and plant berries, grapes and fruit and nut trees, start raising vegetables and horticultural plants. We will to experiment with new varieties of fruits and vegetables to increase the diversity of plant products offered in the local market. We plan to market plants of the perennials and seeds of the annuals. The farm will use sustainable agricultural practices and the practices of organic farming. For animals we will start with laying hens that will be allowed to range freely and grow without hormones or medicated feed. We plan to market our plants and farm products. Currently for the Eno River Farmers’ Market Alfred makes haroseth, spicy pecans, and bakes (bread, cookies, dog bones, focaccia, granola, muffins, pies, and tarts) in a certified church kitchen in Raleigh. He is working on expanding these culinary products to include jams and jellies. William, our son, makes Origami art. Wendy (a graphic artist, muralist, painter, pen & pencil illustrator, papier-mâché artist, sculptor, and song writer) at the Saturday at the market does face-painting and draws customers shopping, musicians, vegetables, and vendors.
