Using market meats, veggies, and artisan prepared foods, Chef Vandemark will serve up an elegant meal with the finest, truly local ingredients. The Harvest Dinner benefits the Eno River Farmers Market, allowing our farmers, bakers, and craftspeople to continue bringing you the best local goods available.

Fresh Roots Festival

FreshRoots FRESH ROOTS FESTIVAL & FRESH ROOTS FEAST Hillsborough, NC - The Downtown Merchants of Historic Hillsborough [DTMHH] are pleased to invite you and your family to their Fall Event - Downtown Merchants of Historic Hillsborough’s Fresh Roots Festival [October 20th ] and the Fresh Roots Feast [October 21st]. Saturday, October 20th brings a day-long assortment of activities to enjoy all around Historic Downtown Hillsborough. From The Eno River Farmer’s Market Pavilion, to the West End of Hillsborough, a veritable trail of shopping incentives, The Hand Made Parade, musical entertainment, good eats and numerous other events give you and your family a fantastic reason to be a part of the Fresh Roots Festival. Details of Festival events are at FreshRootsFestivals.org. Here are some highlights: Spend a literary morning at Eno Gallery as they present “Coffee with the Authors”. John Claude Bemis, Allan Gurganus, Ed and Janet Howle, Elizabeth Matheson, Michael Malone, James Maxey, A.J. Mayhew and Nancy Peacock will see you at Eno Gallery for a special meet and greet. Purple Crow books will be selling books signed by these authors. Orange County Library will host a Literary Hour, spotlighting local author Jill McCorkle. McCorkle will entertain everyone with readings from her popular books. The Library and The Eno River Farmer’s Market will also have children’s events. Pinewoods Montessori will sponsor more children’s activities on the South lawn of the Historic Courthouse, while the North lawn of the Historic Courthouse offers music throughout the day. Music on the Courthouse Lawn begins at Noon to kick-off the pre-parade festivities. The Hand Made Parade begins to march at 2pm and moves from Margaret Lane to Churton Street, traveling north to the Historic Burwell School. Music on the Courthouse Lawn resumes after the parade and carries everyone into the evening with performances until 10pm. Bring your lawn chairs and settle in for some great bands featuring; Yarn, Sirius B., James Justin & Co., Onward Soldiers, Pierce Edens & the Dirty Work with special guests The Bulltown Strutters. Stop in the Visitor’s Center and purchase advance sale tickets for the fun “Spirits of Hillsborough” haunted walking tour. Take the free shuttle bus from downtown to the Shops at Hillsborough Station, where you will find everything from shopping incentives, to a Chili Cook-off, to music and more. The Depot will have a Chili Cook-off from 4 – 6 pm – enter your best recipe and see how your chili rates with the judges! Jim Adams will have a blacksmithing demonstration in the afternoon and the Bulltown Strutters perform from 6-8pm, followed by the Doc Branch Band at 8:30. The Depot also has local breweries on tap, a lovely selection of wines, sandwiches, hot dogs, ice cream and coffee. Buy your tickets for Sunday’s Fresh Roots Feast - a collaborative fund-raiser by local farmers and local chefs. This headliner meal is something to look forward to! Seating is limited to 60. THRILL OF THE GRILL: June 30th, 2012

Summer is fully upon us! Our gardens and fields are bursting with ripe produce, the beef, chicken, and pork is plentiful, and tempeh possibilities abound, so it's time to break out the grills and start cooking up some magic! We'll be grilling samples of our vendors' produce, meats, and tempeh down in the Pavilion from 8am-12pm and pairing them with delightful sides and sauces. The Carrborators will be heating up the sound waves with their musical stylings, and you just might get some new ideas for all of your 4th of July entertaining! Don't miss this quintessential celebration of summertime fun!

Plan to spend April 21st, 2012, in downtown Hillsborough! The Eno River Farmers Market is teaming up with Orange County and the Downtown Merchants of Hillsborough to create a day jam packed with special events you don't want to miss. ERFM will kick things off from 8am-12pm with Fresh Starts, our annual event celebrating your garden! Our farmers will bring in plants and starts that you can't find in the local nurseries and green houses, and tell you everything you need to know to get them growing well. We'll have live music and children's activities in the Pavilion, plus our vendors (returning favorites and brand new gems alike) will be providing you with all your favorite produce, meats, baked and prepared foods, and crafts, plus some fun surprises! At 10am, Orange County joins the party with more music, storytelling, snake and bee demonstrations, arts and crafts for the kids, bounce houses, rain barrels, and much more! Stick around for the after party brought to you by the Downtown Merchants and ERFM at 1pm when local chefs take over the Pavilion for Fresh Roots, turning our farmers' produce and meat products into delectable meals.

This free event is open to the public and will give the community the opportunity to participate in a question and answer session with a panel of local growers. TomatoFest

The festival will feature more than 57 varieties of tomatoes in every size, shape and color, all harvested fresh by local farmers.

Varieties include heirlooms such as Cherokee Purple, Arkansas Traveler, and Aunt Ruby's German Green as well as hybrid favorites like Better Boy and Pink Girl.

An assortment of varieties will be available for canning and sauce, as well as slicing and salad tomatoes, and dozens of varieties of cherry tomatoes.

The market will offer a tomato tasting, where customers can sample and compare over a dozen varieties. Each produce vendor will feature a favorite tomato and offer samples, as well as special information about its growing qualities and taste characteristics.

The market will provide recipes, cooking, canning and storage tips for all kinds of tomatoes.

In addition, the market vendors will have their usual abundance of fresh, local vegetables.

The Eno River Farmers Market at the Public Market House in historic downtown Hillsborough will celebrate SquashFest on Saturday, October 17 from 8 am – Noon.

The festival will feature more than a dozen varieties of squash, pumpkin, and sweet potato in every size, shape and color, all harvested by the market’s local farmers. Varieties include Blue Hubbard, Long Island Cheese, Acorn, Butternut and both orange and white sweet potatoes.

Recipes will be provided for soup, main dishes, side dishes and baked goods. Vendors will offer samples of recipes they have prepared.

There will also be activities for children, including a reading of seasonal stories.

Wilton DuBois of Resounding Steel will play the steel drums and lead a steel drum workshop for children. In the workshop, which will be geared towards ages 4-8, Wilton will teach children to play melodies by Beethoven and Mozart.

In addition, the market vendors will have their usual abundance of fresh, local vegetables.

The Eno River Farmers Market offers farm-fresh produce, cheese, meat, eggs, baked goods, prepared foods, and crafts from local growers and producers. It is open to vendors who reside and produce the items they sell within a 60-mile radius of Hillsborough, NC. Vendors must be the original producer of their items.

Hillsborough Harvest Dinner

The Eno River Farmers Market in historic downtown Hillsborough will host a dinner at the market house on September 11, 2010. The "Hillsborough Harvest Dinner: An Evening at the Eno River Farmers Market" will feature all locally raised products, and be cooked by market chefs.

Chefs Chris McKinley of Box Carr Farms and Dave Ramirez of Geodesic Gardens will use meat, vegetables, fruit, cheese, and baked goods from Eno River Farmers Market vendors to prepare an elegant, sit-down, farm-to-fork dinner for 60 guests. Tickets cost $40 per person.

The event, which is sponsored by the market and the Orange County Visitors Bureau, is intended to celebrate local farmers and sustainably grown foods.

The dinner will feature pasture raised meats from Fickle Creek Farm and Rogers Cattle Company; lettuce, winter squash, peppers, and tomatoes from Two Chicks Farm, Timberwood Organics, and Geodesic Gardens; a variety of goat and cow milk cheeses from Hillsborough Cheese Company; and dessert prepared by the Queen of Tartes.

Musical entertainment will be provided by the JazzTones, a Hillsborough based jazz ensemble.

Tickets are available at the Eno River Farmers Market on Saturday mornings, and must be purchased in advance.

Slaws, Salads and Sides Cook-off At Hillsborough Hog Day

We''l grow the veggies; You make the sides! We'll taste 'em, judge 'em, give out fabulous prizes, and serve 'em up!

The Eno River Farmers Market is pleased to invite savvy cooks from all over to determine who has the BEST recipe for a SLAW, SALAD or SIDE DISH! Each contestant should make at least four quarts of a homemade, cold, vegetable side dish. Each contestant will make their entry at home and bring it to the Public Market House on June 19th by 10 am. Cook-off volunteers will serve the sides. No booth or other set up is required.

Cost to enter is $6. Contestants will receive $4 in Eno River Farmers Market coupons with entry.

Tasting is open to the public for $4 for four (4) samples. Additional samples can be purchased. In addition to the People's Choice Award (chosen by the public), a panel of judges will select First and Second Place, as well as Best Use of Local Ingredients. Each winner will receive a prize and winners names will be announced in the newspaper.

Enchantment Under the Soil

A celebration of the magic that takes place under the soil. Lots of kids activities about composting, bugs, and butterflies.
